Both suites are regulated qualifications on the RQF, so the price buys a recognised level, not just a course.
ILM Level 3 is equivalent to A level standard — it sits at Level 3 on the regulated qualifications framework (RQF), the same level as A levels, a BTEC National or an advanced apprenticeship.
ILM Level 5 is equivalent to a foundation degree, an HND or the second year of a bachelor's degree — all of which sit at Level 5 on the regulated qualifications framework (RQF).
The cheapest route is not always the right route. Choose the pathway that fits the evidence you can realistically produce, the depth of development you want and the qualification outcome you need. Price follows size. An Award is the smallest pathway — one mandatory unit plus at least one optional unit — while an Extended Diploma covers the full mandatory unit set, so it carries several times the credits, guided learning hours and assessment volume.
It depends on the role you are evidencing, not the price. Level 5 is pitched at operational and middle managers and sits a level higher on the RQF, so it is the right spend if you already lead through other people or across functions; if you are a team leader or new manager, Level 3 evidence will be far easier to produce and the qualification will still be recognised.
